There are some GREAT games industry resources out there, but if you aren’t already in the loop it can be hard to know where to start. This is my personal list of things I find myself recommending again and again, both for the games industry generally and specific areas I’ve been involved in.
General
Global Games Industry Guide | THE mega list of Games Industry related resources. Whatever you need, it’s here. |
---|---|
UK Games Industry Slack | If you’re in the UK games industry, this is a must - it has channels for everything. Note though, they don’t admit students. |
Game Conference Calendar | A calendar of games industry events and submission deadlines, which can be synced to your Google Cal. |
BAFTA Connect | Connect membership gets you into various BAFTA related events. Applications usually open once a year. |
UK Games Salary Survey | Results of an informal survey of people’s salaries across the UK games industry. |
Indie Dev & Pitching
Seyed’s Publisher Database | A great list of publishers that includes very helpful notes about budgets, genres and communication rating. |
---|---|
Video Game Founder’s Kit | A handy resource for founders which notably includes real, successful examples of indie game pitch decks. |
Fellow Traveller Forecasting Template | A great template for putting together sales forecasts for your indie game. |
VG Insights | My go-to tool for spying on the competition. |
How To Market A Game | Blog and Discord community about games marketing - highly recommend joining, if only for the automated postings for event submission deadlines. |
Funding & Opportunities
Game Opportunities Newsletter | You MUST join this mailing list if you are an indie dev - and even if you’re not, it’s the best way to keep up to date with programmes and events in the UK. Anything I’ve listed here is covered in that newsletter, and loads more. |
---|---|
UK Games Fund | Grant funding for UK companies, usually opens for applications once a year. Strands for both prototype and growth funding. |
Innovate UK | Grant funding for different types of innovation projects, which are sometimes applicable to games. |
UK Global Screen Fund | Grant funding from the BFI, for companies a bit further along. |
Early Stage Funding Opportunities | Spreadsheet for early funding opportunities for game devs. |
Women & Marginalised Genders in Games
Women In Games | The most well known organisation supporting women in games in the UK, and the reason the rest of us can’t call our meetups “women in games”. They have an ambassador programme you can join, an online conference, and sometimes run side meetups to UK based conferences. |
---|---|
Women-Led Games | An online showcase event and Discord group for game teams led by women. |
Limit Break | A UK-based mentoring programme, now open to any underrepresented people in games. Applications usually open on a yearly basis. |
SavePoint | A community for underrepresented genders in games, who often organise meetups around big conferences. |
Wings | A games fund with a focus on women-led teams, who also sometimes run an accelerator funding prototypes from underrepresented devs. |
Code Coven | Run various programmes and sometimes grants for marginalised game devs. |
Puzzle/Thinky Games
Astra Logical | A game fund specifically for thinky games. |
---|---|
Thinky Games | Showcases and Discord community for thinky games. If you’re making puzzle games in the UK, it’s definitely worth being part of this supportive community. |
Draknek | A puzzle game developer/publisher, who also run things like the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase and New Voices Grant supporting individual developers. |
Local (Norfolk/East Anglia)
Norfolk Game Developers | Meetup & Discord group for game devs in Norfolk. |
---|---|
Nor(DEV) | For general development rather than games, but very active Discord group and events for developers in Norfolk. |

Tech Educators | Bootcamp courses that include a Unity development course, with some funding support available. |
Fuel Studios | The best (only?) trendy tech workspace in Norwich, where both Akcela and Tech Educators work from - come and say hi! |
Innovation Grant Mentoring Project | Support from Norfolk County Council - they can provide you a grant mentor and/or grant bid writer to help you apply for innovation grants. |
New Anglia | Various grants for businesses in Norfolk & Suffolk. |
